As the final weekend of Gen3 is next week, Kieran has looked into the Season 13 lineups and tried to predict who will appear where!

Only 3 of the (current) 10 teams have confirmed their lineups (or one driver in Opel’s case) ahead of the finale in London: Andretti and Citroen.

Starting with Citroen, this isn’t a surprise as both Vergne and Nick Cassidy have collected podiums and many points as stellantis powered cars. After the death of their team principal Cyril Blais, consistency within the team from a drivers side is important so confirming them early helps take the pressure off of the team from this side.

Andretti have gone through many drivers over the past few years. Nato and Mueller to name a few. So to not only bring in a rookie AND continue with a second team with them is a big move for the team. However, Felipe has gelled very well with the team, with both parties being happy with each other, with Felipe getting a podium and multiple points.

Opel has officially confirmed that the F2 2023 champion Theo Pourchaire will be joining the team in their debut season. Pourchaire was at the Opel launch so it was always a matter of when this would be announced.

Porsche Formula E Team-Pascal Wehrlein / Nico Mueller

With Porsche, both Wehrlein and Mueller have tested the Gen4 cars with Porsche so they will be staying on and deserved with their performances and wins.

Jaguar TCS Racing-Stoffel Vandoorne/Antonio Felix Da Costa

For Jaguar, Da Costa has tested and has a contract. However, with Evans departing the team, that frees up a seat and rumours suggest it is Stoffel Vandoorne’s seat for Gen4, after he lost out on his seat at Maserati to the Citroen drivers.

Opel GSL Formula E Team-Theo Pourchaire/Mitch Evans

For Opel, while Sophia Floersch is confirmed as a development driver and Theo Pourchaire as a full time driver, paddock rumours suggest Mitch Evans will join the new team under the stellantis brand’s expansion.

Nissan Formula E Team-Oliver Rowland/Victor Martins

Nissan are expected to retain Season 11 champion Oliver Rowland while Norman Nato will lose his seat at the manufacturers. In his place, another Frenchman Victor Martins will take his place after Alpine leave WEC this year.

Envision Racing-Maximilian Guenther

For Envision, Guenther is reported to make the move from DS Penske to Envision Racing. While it is not known which driver will make way for the incoming German driver, Sebastian Buemi is a WEC driver with Toyota and there are clashes with the calendar for next year, Buemi leaving the sport in favour of Guenther makes sense…to me anyway.

Rest of the Grid Predictions

The next phase are lineups that have little to no rumours to them and who make logical sense to me.

Envision Racing-Joel Eriksson/Maximilian Guenther

To continue on from the Envision section from above, while Guenther is expected to be confirmed, it is currently a 50/50 between Buemi and Eriksson for the second Envision seat. Buemi has experience and a championship on his side, but will miss the Shanghai double header due to a WEC conflict after the Monaco E-Prix date was changed. Personally, I think Eriksson will take the seat as he has shown good pace this year and does have a podium to his name in tough conditions.

Porsche Formula E Team’s 2nd Team-Ayhancan Güven /Dan Ticktum

Note: While reports have emerged that Porsche will not contest a second factory team, they have not been confirmed yet so I’m still predicting their line-up:

Let’s start with Porsche’s second factory team, confirmed to be arriving last year. This will mean they will not be a customer team and have the same powertrain as Wehrlein and Mueller’s team. With this, I believe Dan Ticktum is the driver to help lead this team. As now a multiple E-Prix winner and experience with a Porsche powertrain, he makes the most sense from an experience point of view.

Beside him, Ayhancan Güven has been rumoured as a driver with the expectation of entering the world championship as he already races with Porsche in DTM. He is 28 and has experience under his belt.

Cupra Kiro-Pepe Marti/Taylor Barnard

This one if 50% shot in the dark, 50% logical.
For Pepe Marti, he has made MAJOR improvements from his first race in Sao Paulo with a massive airborne crash to getting multiple podiums in his debut season.

For Taylor Barnard, I think he will depart from DS Penske and make his change to the Cupra Kiro team with the seat vacated by Ticktum

Mahindra Racing- Nyck De Vries/ Kush Maini

For the Indian team of Mahindra, I think keeping De Vries is a no brainer. With multiple race  wins this season alone and being in mathematical chance when we enter London, they have to keep him.

For Mortara…I think there will be frustration on both sides that Mortara hasn’t been able to win yet this season and that the team was late with its Gen4 debut compared to other manufacturers. So I think the F2 veteran Kush Maini will join Formula E full time next season.

Lola Yamaha Abt-Zane Maloney/Robert Shwartzman

With the retirement of Lucas Di Grassi from professional racing, Lola needs someone who has spend a few years in the series so why not stick with the rookie they brought into the sport; Zane Maloney? Its a no brainer to me as Zane has shown speed and being able to keep it clean while other drivers get penalties can boost him into the points.

Now, onto Lucas’ replacement. A few names have swirled around but I think Robert Shwartzman is most likely as he is clearly looking for a way back after Prema’s departure from Indycar. This is based on rumours/reports I’ve seen.
