BTCC Knockhill – Morgan and Rowbottom secure historic first win and one-two for Plato Racing

Adam Morgan converted pole into race win as he secured the first win for Cataclean Plato Racing. He led from lights to flag with team mate Dan Rowbottom finishing second to make it not only the first win, but the first one-two for Jason Plato’s eponymous outfit.

Morgan got a good start off the line with Shedden also starting well but the Mercedes man was able to fend off the three time champion. Morgan benefited from team mate Rowbottom hounding Shedden to build a one second lead by the end of lap one.

Dan Cammish made a false start off the grid, having edged forward slightly with the lights still red. He received a ten second penalty for the infringement.

Championship leader Ash Sutton was surging up the grid, sitting sixth by the end of lap two having started 11th.

Tom Chilton had an excursion into the gravel trap having been nudged off by Dexter Patterson into the chicane. Meanwhile back at the front Rowbottom was on Shedden’s tail. The Plato Racing man got a good exit out of the final hairpin and out dragged Shedden down the start finish straight to take second.

Behind the pair Ricky Collard, who had secured extra funding to contest the next three rounds, made his way up to fourth with Charles Rainford and Sutton in tow. He didn’t hold onto fourth for long though as Sutton managed to squeeze past the Team Vertu driver before the chicane.

Sutton’s title rival Tom Ingram wasn’t far behind, moving into fifth place by lap 14 and trying to limit the damage to the championship lead. Rainford was racing well before being pulled into the pits due to his rear bumper hanging off, resulting in the black and orange mechanical flag being waved for him.

The Safety Car was deployed on lap 17 when Lewis Gilbert was sent spinning into the gravel trap  having been tapped off by Josh Cook. After a six lap delay the race resumed.

The Mercedes pair pulled away while Shedden was holding on for third defending from Sutton and Ingram behind him.

Rainford was involved in further issues as he spun on lap 24, dropping him to the back of the grid.

The Power Maxed Audi’s came back firing after the restart with Patterson, Doble and Moffat passing Daryl De Leon in his WSR BMW.

Morgan secured his 12th career win with Rowbottom behind securing the first one-two for Plato Racing. Shedden finished third at his home circuit with Sutton and Ingram finishing fourth and fifth respectively having ran side by side up to the line.

Collard finished sixth with the PMR trio of Patterson, Doble and Moffat following behind. Moffat in particular had an excellent race from 22nd on the grid to ninth by the finish.

Sam Osborne rounded out the top ten with De Leon close behind. Aron Taylor-Smith, Josh Cook, Lewis Selby and James Dorlin rounded out the top ten.
