Formula E Season 12: Key Championship Points after Tokyo

In 2 weeks we will get a new piece of history-either a second 2 time formula e champion or a new formula e champion! With
Tokyo, it marked the penultimate weekend of the Gen3/Gen3 Evo and MANY talking points came out of the weekend!

The drivers and teams championship was turned upside down so lets have a look at what led to the build up to the final weekend!

Round 14

  • Dennis qualifying high up and finishing P2 in the first race
    • Dennis started P2 in round 14 in Tokyo and had a good strategy with the combination of his pit boost. However, a powercut before the penultimate corner led to Dan Ticktum taking the win ahead of his fellow countryman, a win Ticktum needed.
  • Wehrlein and Da Costa being involved in an incident with Wehrlein getting a penalty.
    • These 2 have their fair share of historical events. With rumours of a quarrel on the drivers parade in Sao Paulo 2024 leading to the destruction of the friendship seemed to have no love lost between the two.
  • Cassidy Podium
    • Cassidy managed to get to the duels and after a good strategy, found himself in P3 by the time the chequered flag came along, however was unable to capitalise on Dennis’ powercut.

Round 15

  • De Vries Victory in Round 15
    • Keeping his 2nd championship hopes alive (just about), De Vries managed to get a second victory of the season after a very late red flag. This means he is in mathematical contention heading into London.
  • Wehrlein’s weekend from hell
    • On the weekend where the drivers championship could have been wrapped up by the Season 10 champion Pascal Wehrlein, he suffered a 0 point weekend due to collisions, penalties are setups all factoring into a horrible weekend and which saw him go from P1 to P3 in the championship.
  • Dennis’ late charge and gamble
    • A heavy downfall hit the circuit prior to Round 15. Some drivers went for a wet strategy, others went for a dry. Dennis was a driver who gambled on the dry strategy and it paid off. He was in 3rd with attack mode and chasing down the win until Buemi and Da Costa brought out a red flag due to a collision between the two and creating an obstruction.
  • Cassidy Podium….AGAIN!
    • There is something special about Cassidy and the end of a season. He seems to suddenly come alive. He got multiple victories at the end of Season 11 and now he is getting podiums! He is 42 points back from the lead after Tokyo so he will need many rabbits foots and 4 leaf clovers to get the championship.

Teams Championship is up in the air, while the manufacturers champion is crowned

Lets start with the new champions: Porsche. With the wins and podiums collected from Porsche powered teams (Porsche Formula E Team, Cupra Kiro and Andretti) Porsche were crowned the manufacturers champions of Season 12.

Jaguar are now second and can’t be caught. However, Stellantis, Mahindra and Nissan are all in a fight for P3 with Lola at the bottom.

For teams, it is more interesting! Jaguar TCS Racing lead from Porsche Formula E Team by 14 points! Andretti Formula E isn’t too far behind them either with 211 points and only 1 ahead of Mahindra Racing! Citroen Racing, Nissan Formula E Team, Envision Racing are all seperated by 36 points with Cupra Kiro at 116, DS Penske at 56 and Lola Yamaha Abt at 35.

Who do you think will get the drivers championship?
