BTCC Knockhill – Chilton rolls back the years with race three win

Tom Chilton rolled back the years to lead from lights to flag to take victory in race three at Knockhill. Having been handed pole position by the reverse grid draw, the veteran racer led off the line and was never threatened.

Chilton started well off the grid, having got the better of Selby to lead and never look back. It was a poor end to the weekend for hometown hero Gordon Shedden’s as a puncture on lap one saw him fall down the order.

The NAPA Ford trio were chasing down Chilton, with Selby holding his own against his much more experienced team mate in Dan Cammish. Sam Osborne in the third Focus went off on lap five. He managed to continue having reversed out the gravel trap.

Adam Morgan, race one winner for Plato Racing, was powering up the order having passed Cammish for third and then Selby for second as he out dragged the Ford down the start finish straight.

The other Ford, none other than Ash Sutton, was for once struggling to get through the order. He started 12th and couldn’t make much progress as title rival Tom Ingram managed to get past Sutton and managed to reduce the title lead by two points.

It was Chilton who took victory, the 19th of his career, with Morgan rounding off a productive weekend for the Plato Racing team with second and Dan Cammish taking third spot.

Dexter Patterson was the highest placed Scot with another impressive outing finishing fourth ahead of the WSR pair of Charles Rainford and Daryl De Leon. Dan Rowbottom was seventh and Josh Cook eighth.

Ricky Collard led home team mate Tom Ingram for ninth and tenth respectively while Mikey Doble fended off Sutton for 11th. Lewis Selby, Chris Smiley and James Dorlin rounded off the points finishers.
